I have done my fair share of research when it comes to health food spots in the city. While I love Whole Foods for a big grocery shop, I love supporting small businesses, especially local health food stores. They do so much for communities by bringing awareness to how we eat and where our food comes from and I think we should give more credit to that. I have favorite spots in just about every neighborhood of Manhattan so I thought I would share a few of my ultimate faves.
Bonberi: Originally located on Bleecker Street in the West Village, Bonberi has moved to a pop-up at Nordstrom on 57th while they work on expanding to a new location. I have been a loyal follower of theirs for quite sometime and they carry such great products, especially for cooking your own foods. They have some of the best prepared health foods in the city. I have yet to get bowls or salads of this quality and freshness. You don’t feel like you are eating out at all which I love.
East Village Organic: For the market that feels like you are in a small town rather than NYC look no further than East Village Organic. If you are looking for a real health food store, this is it. They have a great selection of organic produce, a wonderful healthy chocolate selection, and a juice and smoothie bar in the back. Definitely worth checking out!
Orchard Grocer (Lower East Side): This little spot tucked away on Orchard Street is the cutest little market, chock full of some of my favorite brands. It’s tiny, but the curation of products is really well done. They also have great prepared vegan sandwhiches made to order!
Clean Market: Located in Midtown East, Clean Market is my new favorite spot for prepared health foods and any wellness essentials. They carry really great brands, their prepared foods are amazing, and it’s a gorgeous space. They also offer infrared sauna sessions and cryotherapy!
Foragers Natural Market (Flatiron): I came across this little market when I was in search of my favorite coconut yogurt, Cocojune. They have such a nice selection of health foods and gourmet cooking essentials. A little bit pricey, but a nice treat to wander and pick up a few things every now and then.
LifeThyme Market (West VIllage): Oh. My. Gosh. How did it take me so long to discover this place? I am fully OBSESSED. They have a full case of raw vegan desserts… need I say more? Get the raw chocolate walnut cake and thank me later. Such a great place to go and pick up any essentials as well! :)
Clover Grocery (West Village): Clover Grocery is located right next door to Cafe Clover, one of the cutest healthy restaurants in the city. They offer all the great health food brands in addition to having some of their own prepared foods, as well as a smoothie and coffee bar. It’s the definition of a “boutique” health food store :)
